Research Description
Our research project focuses on developing and applying biotechnology to detect, isolate, identify and evaluate novel biologically active metabolites from the highly diverse microbes. To discover new anticancer, cardiovascular, and reduction in blood sugar agents from microbes is the priority goal. The collections of microbes from special environments are mass-cultured and managed for bioactive detections. Hundreds of extracts from marine dinofalgellates and cyanobacteria show promise as potential antitumor and antidiabetes agents. Target active agents are isolated through bioassay directed fractionation strategies using of modern chromatographic techniques. Structure elucidation is achieved through a combination of advanced spectroscopic analysis, as well as chemical modification.

In addition, the growth condition for production of targeted compounds is investigated through optimizing the nutrients and physical states of the microbes’ culture. Those amounts of the bioactive compounds which are required for further bioactive mechanism and absolute stereochemistry studies will be provided by the continuous cultures. The development of total technology for cultivation of microbes will assist with the development of commercial-scale microbe’s culturing techniques for the reproducible production of bioactive compounds.
