Research Description
Cancer is the leading cause of death in the world. Though many anticancer drugs are used in clinical now, their undesired adverse effects encourage us to develop new therapeutic strategies to cure, prolong life, and improve quality of life for patients. Dysregulation of cell growth such as defects in cell cycle control and inactivation of apoptosis results in neoplasm formation. Therefore, activation of cell cycle checkpoints and reactivation of apoptosis are promising strategies for cancer therapy. We have established a serial of techniques, including a screen platform, cell biology and biochemistry methods for mechanism elucidation in vitro, and xenograft tumor model for efficacy validation in vivo to identify potential anticancer components from herbs and synthetic compounds. We have identified several synthetic compounds or pure compounds isolated form herbs that present good anticancer activity and are working on investigation of their anticancer mechanisms and in vivo efficacy evaluation. We hope we can develop valuable therapeutic drugs to combat cancer in the future.
