Research Description:
For modern biomedicine results of research from 15 or 20 years ago are practically outdated. So then, aside from the historical and ethnic significance, what is the value of the vast medical literature originating from pre-modern China? As far as the study of medical history is concerned, this literature is the building blocks by which we reconstruct past images. Similar to a jigsaw puzzle, it is through the reassembling of these building blocks that we have been able to preserve the structural integrity of traditional medicine. The meaning of many characters and terms has transformed through different ages. If we were to use their modern vernacular meaning to interpret pre-modern words and concepts – misinterpretation would be inevitable.
At present, the research center mainly focuses on the part of imagery thinking (compared to the Yin and Yang five elements, Monism, time and space, etc.). By means of studying the history of ideas and tracing concepts back to their original context, the temporospatial backdrop is reinterpreted.
